Artist's Description

The earliest known carousel image is a Byzantine bas-relief from around 500 A.D. More recent makers like Frank Carretta, Gustav Dentzel, and Allan Herschell carved the most exquisite horses in the world, horses with lush waving manes, flared nostrils, dreamy or fiercely competitive eyes, and jeweled harnesses. This is a Philadelphia style horse on a restored, operating carousel.
