Description
Purple Loosestrife (lythrum salicaria) is a 3-5' tall, invasive, perennial plant that forms clonal colonies from a single woody root mass. It can be used as an astringent medicinal herb to treat diarrhea and dysentery but it also disrupts water flow and crowds out food and other cover grasses here in Vermont. Beatle and beetle lovers like it because it makes a lovely stand.
