Thanks to my friend Geoff who pointed out that one of our resident pelicans has had a "wingman" this season, a gull that shadows him in formation pretty much every afternoon he fishes along our beach.
Pelicans here fish by waddling up to a fileting table to beg or by stooping -- tucking up and plunging straight down into shallow water to catch a fish unaware. This gull has decided he might get seconds if he lands on his buddy's head. I haven't seen that happen.
This tall, narrow composite photo overlays three fast shots of the pelican stooping.
